SWSM is proud to expand our orthopaedic services in Sydney West with the addition of two highly regarded surgeons. Dr Brian Hsu, Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon, and Dr Deepak Gupta, Orthopaedic Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon, bring extensive expertise in the management of complex spinal and upper limb conditions.

Orthopaedic surgery at SWSM covers a wide range of treatments for conditions that affect movement, function, and quality of life. This includes degenerative spine disorders, spinal deformities, trauma, and minimally invasive spine procedures, as well as shoulder instability, rotator cuff injuries, elbow reconstruction, and joint replacement surgery.

Dr Brian Hsu
Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr Hsu’s goal is to educate and inform patients about their spinal condition and help them to make important decisions regarding their treatment options.

Dr Brian Hsu is an experienced Adult and Paediatric Spine Surgeon consulting and operating across Sydney. He has 15+ years of spinal surgery experience and has developed significant expertise performing orthopaedic spine surgery in both paediatric and adult patients.

Dr Hsu completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 1996 and then went on to complete orthopaedic surgical training in NSW, achieving Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2007.

Dr Hsu pursued his interest in spine surgery and was successfully selected to complete two sub-specialised spine surgery fellowships at prestigious international institutions in the USA, which offer experience at high-volume, cutting-edge hospitals and training under luminary international spine specialists.

Dr Hsu’s area of interest is in all aspects of spine surgery and spinal disorders, particular adult and paediatric spine deformity, complex cervical reconstructions, spinal osteotomies and degenerative cervical and lumbar conditions.

Dr Hsu has a genuine interest in medical education and research, and is a participant in global spinal organisations. He has given numerous presentations at both national and international meetings and is published in the journal Spine, an international journal for the study of the spine. He has also written several book chapters.

Dr Manish Gupta
Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr Manish Gupta is a Specialist upper-limb Orthopaedic Surgeon with 15+ years experience consulting and operating across North-West and Western Sydney. He specialises in shoulder and elbow conditions. In addition to consulting and operating, Dr Gupta is also involved with mentoring and training medical students, trainee surgeons and allied health professionals. He has recently completed a tenure as the Director of Orthopaedic Training at Nepean Hospital. He is the secretary of the International Orthopaedic Trauma Teaching Group (OTC Asia-Pacific).
