About the Sessions
For children aged 6–12 presenting with mood or behavioural concerns, Jordan recommends parental involvement during the first three sessions. Ongoing parent participation is tailored according to the child’s maturity, the complexity of the issues, and family preferences. Individual sessions typically include a brief parent check-in at the beginning and a summary at the end to support effective strategies at home.
For adolescents aged 13 and older, parental involvement is flexible. Jordan generally begins with a joint session and collaboratively determines the level of future parent engagement, respecting the adolescent’s need for independence.
Initial sessions focus on assessment and collaborative goal setting. Treatment plans typically span 6–10 sessions, with extended support available for more severe or persistent issues.
